Control of Welding Residual Stress for Dissimilar Laser Welded Materials
The most common problem of welding dissimilar metals (DMWs) with respect to residual stresses is the differences in the coefficient of thermal expansion and heat conductivity of the two welded metals. In the present work, a CO2 continuous laser welding process was successfully applied and optimized for joining a dissimilar AISI 316 stainless steel and low carbon steel plates. The Taguchi approa...
متن کاملResidual Generation for Fault Diagnosis
The objective when supervising technical processes is to alarm an operator when a fault is detected and also identify one, or possibly a set of components, that may have been the cause of the alarm. Diagnosis is an expansive subject, partly due to the fact that nowadays, more applications have more embedded computing power and more available sensors than before. A fundamental part of many model...
متن کاملRelationship between Coverage and Surface Residual Stress
Controlled, uniform, peening has been used to impose precise cov onto mild steel plate specimens. This was achieved by using an the specimens under a single, precision-loaded, 2mm diameter studies have revealed a surprising relationship between percent surface residual stress. Stress increases almost linearly with low coverages but reaches a maximum at about 80% coverage. At 100% coverage the i...
متن کاملResidual Stress, Stress Relief, and Inhomogeneity in Aluminum Plate
Through-thickness residual-stress profiles in rolled 7050-T74 aluminum plate were measured before and after stress relief by stretching (-Tx51). Measurement required adapting the crack compliance method to measure both inplane stress components. Unexpected features in the profiles could be explained by through-thickness yield strength variations caused by crystallographic texture.
متن کاملResidual stress Part 2 – Nature and origins
Residual stress is that which remains in a body that is stationary and at equilibrium with its surroundings. It can be detrimental when it reduces the tolerance of the material to an externally applied force, as is the case with welded joints. On the other hand, it can be exploited to design materials or components which are resistant to damage, toughened glass being a good example. This paper,...
